Axtlan's Design Sheet - Krek

Kreks are Axtlan’s core anomaly: a closed loop between environment, suns, ore and mutated plant life. Wherever one or more of the seventeen suns break through fog, storms or dust long enough, they “charge” local ore seams. Standard metals and gemstones shift into Krek pre-material – still recognizable, but carrying unstable charge, altered density and faint colour shifts. Given time and the right solar mix, those seams crystallise into full Krek types: blue, dusty, green, oily, colourful, red and more. Each variant reflects the local climate, ore base and radiation spectrum, but any ore can become any Krek colour if the conditions line up.

The poppy-like Krek pods are the biological side of the system. They are mutant plants that only thrive under specific magnetic and radiation patterns. Their roots lock into Krek-rich strata, pulling charged minerals upward until the plant effectively becomes a mineral refinery. Crystals of matching colour grow directly on the pod crowns, each one infused with a powerful, highly addictive drug that has been part of Axtlan culture for as long as anyone remembers. In the field, Krek basins, altered ore, crystal fields and towering pods always appear together, marking locations where geology, ecology and narcotic economy collide around a single volatile resource.
